Have you ever downloaded movies with poor subtitles? You probably have, but this problem can be easily solved with SubRip. This programme lets you extract the subtitles from your DVDs and convert them to BMP bitmap.

In this format, you can edit them as SVCD (SuperVideoCD) subtitles to, a very common format. You can also move them to a text file, allowing you to modify them as you wish: translate them, remove letters, change them, etc..

You can correct them automatically; adjust playback speed, which allows you to determine how long they appear on screen; or sync them to the image. Another worthwhile option is division, with which you can split up the subtitles to your liking.
